Music-related Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.     Can I have another vocalist sing the song I wrote?

Yes, any vocalist can sing the song; it doesn't need to be the song author.

2.     Can I get help from other musicians to record the song?
Yes, you can have as many instruments as you like and involve other musicians.

3.    Can I use other instruments in the song apart from the usual keyboard, guitar, bass and drums?

You may also use any kind of instruments for the backing track as long as you are able to bring your own instruments and equipment needed to perform the song for the final round. The organiser however reserves the rights to reject any request due to space or technical constraint.

4.    What are the judging criteria?

The song will be judged according to five main criteria.

-         Creativity/Originality (Originality)

-         Lyrics (clear, relevant, grammar, phrasing)

-         Melody (fits lyrics, musical phrasing and style)

-         Communicative quality E.g. easy to sing and can be translated into other languages

-         Able to evoke feelings for and of the community, regardless of the language used

5.    What if I do not have a good recording system?
The song will not be judged on the quality of the recording. You may use a PC or laptop to record it as long as it does not distort and it’s clear. Please make sure that the volume is loud enough for us to hear. You will not be penalized if the recording sounds raw. You will also not be judged on performance of the song.

6.    Will I lose my rights to the song once it is entered into the competition?
Please refer to the Terms and Conditions.

7.    Will I be allowed to perform the song during or after the competition?
Please refer to the Terms and Conditions.

8.    Can the song be a work by 2 or more composers? E.g. I write the lyrics, my friend writes the melody?
Yes, you are allowed to do that as long as you submit your names and details accordingly.

9.    How many entries can I submit?
You are only allowed to submit one entry, unless one of the compositions is co-written with someone else. Only then are you allowed to send in another composition that is fully written by you.
